DIY at home office

This month marks 1 year since most of us have been working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. This has now become the norm for many; at times, work life versus home life may feel non-existent. During the start of the year I decided to create a dedicated space for myself to work in so I can regain a sense of home in my small apartment. What I did was transform my storage unit into a DIY home office and warehouse for my skincare brand Skin Sezson.

My home office and warehouse cost me about $400 dollars and was completed in under a month since I had to wait for items to be shipped. It’s a small, minimalistic space that provides the perfect environment to focus and work in. What’s best about my DIY office is that I’m able to create a balanced lifestyle of work and play. The hardest thing about working from home is creating boundaries when working and remembering to rest. Having a dedicated work space allows me to do so. 

If you are unable to create a dedicated work space for yourself consider the following tips

• Create a schedule! It’s so important to create a schedule that you can realistically follow for yourself. Your schedule should include time for work, play, and anything else that interests you (such as working out, engaging in hobbies, etc).
• Work in a clean space. Make sure your work space, no matter how big or small is a clean environment. This will reduce any distractions that may capture your eyes so you can focus on work.
• Work in a well-lit area. Working in a space that is well-lit is so important. When working from home its so easy to make your way back to bed, and to lose overall focus. Work in an area that will allow you to stay alert!
• Stay hydrated, well fed, and well rested so you can take on the day!
