Urban Decay Naked Basics eyeshadow palette is quickly becoming my go-to neutral palette when wearing makeup to work, or on a night out. I’ve had this product for about two years and didn’t start reaching for it recently until a couple of months ago. As I was practicing different makeup looks with nude eyeshadows I realized what a gem this small eyeshadow palette really is!
Packaging and Product Description
Urban Decay Naked Basics comes packaged in a slim and sturdy cardboard box that is a similar shade as the packaging of the product with its logo in dark brown text; the same visuals and inscriptions are front-facing the actual product once it’s removed from the cardboard packaging. There are 6 eyeshadows in the palette ranging from light to dark. Each eyeshadow is set in a hard shiny deep beige plastic covering with a large mirror opposite to them. The eyeshadows are 0.05oz in weight totaling 0.3oz of product.
Performance
Each eyeshadow is unique yet similar in their own way. The four lightest matte shades look the same, and appear chalky on my deep skintone, while the shimmer shade makes my deep skin look ashy. When blended onto my eyes, a difference in colour (different shades of beige) and texture (powder soft) can be seen. The matte shades with their varying undertones ranging from yellow to pink is what makes the light colours work on my dark skin. Even the matte black is transformative in the sense that when blended, it has undertones of brown that complement the other eyshadows in the palette. I only use the shimmer shade as an inner corner highlight as it’s the only way I’ve found so far that is complimentary to my skintone.
When applying the product, I found that if you use a heavy hand, a lot of eyeshadow fallout occurs (both within the pan and on your face. The finely milled powders require a gentle hand when using in order to reduce and prevent fallout. I really enjoy how simple yet powerful this pallet has the potential to be when used alone or with other eyeshadows. It has become a favourite product of mine because of the fool-proof shades that can be used to create simple and dramatic looks.
