Ambiance of India is the perfect place to go if you are looking for authentic Indian food in the Mississauga, Ontario area. I visited this restaurant a few weeks ago and was highly impressed with the service and food. Upon arrival, you are surrounded by rich hues of gold, and deep rich wooden colours accented by Indian decor. It is a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment.
There are multiple appetizers to choose from, we choose both a vegetarian platter and a meat platter. The Chef’s Veggie Platter is an assortment of vegetables, pankora, onion bhajia and paneer pakora. The Tandoori Sampler is an assortment of lamb kabab and chicken tikka seasoned in tandoori spices. Both set of appetizers were served warm, with dipping sauce and were full of flavour! Surprisingly, I enjoyed the vegetarian platter more so than the meat platter.
For my entree I ordered the butter chicken. This dish is described as a clay oven cooked boneless chicken in a rich, smooth, creamy gravy of tomato, butter and herbs. I ate this dish with a side of rice and buttered naan bread. I am so happy that I choose this dish. It was absolutely delicious! Just as described, it was rich, creamy and smooth. A bit spicy but not so overwhelming that one could not enjoy their meal. The herbs nicely complimented the tomato flavour and added an additional depth to the butter chicken.
For dessert we had rice pudding. It is described as being a homemade rice pudding flavoured with cardamon and pistachio. This was the first time I’ve ever had rice pudding and it was the perfect way to end my meal! It was cool to the pallet, sweet and slightly savoury with the perfect amount of crunch thanks to the sprinkling of pistachios. A perfect ending to a fabulous meal.
