Ruby Slippers
The first full morning in New Orleans started off by my friend and I heading to a recommended breakfast spot. We visited Ruby Slippers restaurant located on Canal Street. This restaurant is considered a local and tourist favourite. Upon arrival we were seated quickly and had our order taken. The menu provided both classic and creative breakfast and brunch meal options. The food tasted great and we left satisfied with the meal and customer service. I would definitely recommend checking out Ruby Slippers if you get the chance.
St. Louis Cemetery Tour
If you are not the skemish type a guided cemetery tour is a must! My friend and I decided to get a tour of the St. Louis Cemetery. Let me tell you, I’m glad we did! We had a fantastic energetic tour guide who was passionate about her role and had so much information to share with us. We learned about how the cemetery came into to existence, why the bodies of those who have passed are buried above ground, the story and history of those who have passed, and much more!
French Quarter and Bourbon Street
If you are a fan of the nightlife, most likely than not you will find yourself on the French Quarter or on Bourbon Street. Both streets are long and can be accessed during the day and into the early mornings. After 8pm Bourbon Street starts to become alive with the initial happenings of nightlife. For those who enjoy alcohol; we were told that there is no last call for drinks, and the bars, clubs and lounges stay open till about 5:30am. We had a great time bar hopping and taking in various musical sounds; from live bands and jazz, all the way to the Top 40, hip hop and rap. There is something for everyone. What’s also important to note is that you are able to purchase food items if you happen to get the munchies as you party the night away.
Jackson Square Park and St. Louis Cathedral
The first thing that comes to mind about Jackson Square and St. Louise Cathedral is picture perfect. Located in the French Quarter, this tourist attraction is on beautiful grounds with scenic views. My friend and I were able to visit these grounds twice, one of them being on Easter Sunday to attend mass. Both visits were breathtaking.
Cafe du Monde
Before I had left for New Orleans many people were telling me to check out Cafe du Monde. I’m sure glad I did! If you plan to eat here be prepared to line up as it is a popular tourist spot. It was my first time eating beignets and I was not disappointed! They were served warm and topped with powdered sugar. They were slightly crunchy on the outside and quickly melted into your mouth to a nice soft, sweet texture as you ate them. This is a place you don’t want to miss!
Stay tuned for part 2!

April 30, 2015Sounds fantastic! I would love to get down there for Mardi Gras! Do you still see a lot of devastation from Hurricane Katrina?

May 1, 2015Where my friend and I were staying we did see some devastation from Hurricane Katrina; some people have been able to rebuild their homes while others have not. We didn’t go to the hardest hit areas from the hurricane… I don’t even want to imagine how badly hit those neighborhoods got. New Orleans is still rebuilding.
